12 things to reignite your creativity for the spring garden.

At this point in the year, around the end of February and the beginning of March, I find myself desperate for some new ideas and more creative energy. Cold, endless winters have exhausted me and I’m ready for something new. The restlessness for spring to arrive has begun.

Regardless if you have a garden, I’ve curated a list of some of my favorite ways to renew that creativity and get the wheels turning with anticipation for the season ahead. Here are my most watched and read; what I go to when I’m feeling the effects of winter and need a creative boost.

Three books, three podcasts, three online classes, and three youtube channels I've been obsessed with, are fueling my life right now.

Books

  1. The First-Time Gardener by Jess Sowards

This a fantastic book that gives you everything you need to start your first garden and fall in love with it. Beautiful pictures and a book I often go back to when I need a little garden guidance.

  2. Fresh Freeze by Crystal Schmidt

My favorite garden preserving cookbook is broken down by veg or fruit with simple, super yummy recipes. Reignites my innovation in the kitchen and guides me on how to use and preserve my harvest.

  3. The Tiny but Mighty Farm by Jill Ragan

Jill has a gorgeous garden and an encouraging story that motivates me to keep shooting for my garden dreams daily. She’s everyone’s best garden friend.

Podcasts

  1. Roots and Refuge with Jessica Sowards

Recently launched, Jess covers homesteading life, and gardening and shares all the lessons she has learned along the way. I thoroughly enjoy watching her dreams unfold and spark excitement in others to keep pursuing theirs. I could listen to her talk for hours.

  2. Homemaker Chic

Angela and Shay are by far my favorite Women podcast duo. Listen for a good laugh and endless inspiration for life, home, and gardening. I always leave feeling so good and more connected to the virtual gardening community.

  3. Garden Culture with Bailey Van Tassel

Bailey interviews all kinds of people in the gardening community who live garden-inspired lives. I love listening and gaining more perspective on how others infuse their lives with the magic of the garden.

Classes

  1. Create Academy Garden and Floristry Courses

Currently, I am working my way through as many of these classes as possible before the spring garden starts. So many gorgeous gardens, and is my favorite place to learn new skills. Be encouraged by dreamy English cottage gardens, stunning floristry masterclasses, and garden design. It just keeps going.

  2. Growing Gardeners Course with Jess and Jill

I took this course years ago and loved it. Jess and Jill are great teachers and really helped me have the confidence to grow a home garden. Highly recommend if you need some garden guidance.

  3. Magnolia Workshops

Magnolia has so many wonderful home, kitchen, garden, DIY, and art workshops taught by great teachers. I’ve recently been encouraged to get more into learning about Finding good vintage with Katie Saro, leading me to design more of the spaces around me in a whole new way.

Youtube

  1. Elliot Homestead

Beautiful English cottage gardens is what Elliot homestead does best. Always sharing delicious homemade rustic farm meals and charming homestead living.

  2. Huws Richards Garden

  3. Garden Answer

Laura and her family have a stunning property and share everything from container/planter combos, kitchen gardening, seed starting, and pretty much everything in between. One of my favorite resources for landscape design inspiration.
